Joel Cummins' Umphrey's McGee Keyboard Rig
A breakdown of what the keyboard wizard has in his arsenal
As always, if you have any information to add, please comment/contact me!
Thank you SO much to Joel himself for sending pictures and info of his rig and signal chain! All info current as of 11/11/21!
Facing Bayliss: Hammond B3 organ, Prophet-6 synthesizer (The Prophet is accompanied by a Strymon DIG Dual Digital Delay effects pedal)
Facing Front: Roland V-Piano (the Roland is run through a TC Electronics Flashback delay for reverse and ping pong delay effects), Moog Voyager synthesizer (the Voyager is run through a Moog MF-104M analog delay and a Boss Chromatic Tuner)
The Moog’s tuner makes sure Joel can bend notes accurately in real time (especially super slow bends and note approaches) as well as keep the synthesizer in tune. The Moog delay takes the “edge off” the synth’s sound and makes it a bit darker.
Facing Side Stage: Nord Stage 3
Facing Rear: Fender Rhodes Mark I (run through an Eventide H9 and Moog MF-104M delay), Mellotron M4000D (run through the same Strymon DIG Dual Digital Delay as the Prophet 6
The Eventide H9 and Moog delay pedals supply Joel with ghostly backdrops on chordal playing, phasers, ring modulators, distortion, and general weirdness he likes to use.
The list on top of the Mellotron consists of all the patches he likes to use with the Prophet-6.
The Strymon DIG has two delay channels that can run simultaneously, allowing Joel to use the Mellotron and Prophet in sync through the same pedal.
